Accomplishments

Since 2021, the Coalition worked on many projects. Here are the ones that are done.

Quebec provincial elections of 2022

​We asked 12 questions on the theme of the sustainable food transition to all the parties presenting candidates for the 2022 provincial elections in Quebec.

Federal election of 2021

We examined the position of local parties and candidates on the transition to a more sustainable food system.

Sustainable Food Transition Coalition / Plant-Based Cities Movement / Montreal SPCA

The City of Montreal signs the C40 Good Food Cities Declaration 

 

In 2022, the Coalition, the PBCM and the Montreal SPCA made representations to the City of Montreal that led to the City signing on to the C40 Good Food Cities Declaration, a commitment to promote a plant-strong diets and combat food waste. The Montreal SPCA launched a campaign calling on Montrealers to reach out to directly to the City of Montreal.

Plant-based Cities Movement

Motions passed in two more cities 

The PBCM teams have been working diligently with several municipalities across Canada and succeeded in passing two motions promoting plant-based foods in city events and procurement.

Animal agriculture at COP

​

MP Leah Taylor-Roy supported WAP goals by spearheading an MP sign-on letter ahead of COP28, asking Minister Guilbeault to commit to addressing animal agriculture as a significant source of climate change. Also, WAP International hosted side events at COP27 and COP28 promoting the benefits of plant-based diets for climate mitigation, and calling for a more humane and sustainable food system.

Representations to the Federal Board of Internal Economy 

 

NDP MP wrote a letter on WAP’s behalf to the Board of Internal Economy asking that they procure plant-based foods in federal government cafeterias and restaurants.

2022 Report on Animal-sourced food consumption and Canada’s emissions targets

 

World Animal Protection commissioned research from Navius to examine the potential of dietary shifts to help reduce our GHG emissions. The results are compelling. Report is available here.
